Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra combines two Sanskrit words, ‘Yoga’ meaning union (mind-body consciousness), and ‘Nidra’ meaning sleep. During a Yoga Nidra practice attention is systematically drawn to specific points outlining the body coupled with gentle meditation and visualization.
Rooted in meditation, Yoga Nidra induces physical, mental and emotional relaxation.
Yoga Nidra is a tool for developing higher states of consciousness and a deeper level of inner Self awareness through detachment of the conscious mind. The practice of Yoga Nidra allows the Self to enter a state between the waking state and dream state, the hypnagogic state, becoming the observer of Self.
This provides contact with the subconscious and unconscious layers of Self promoting self-healing, enhanced creativity, cognitive functioning and spiritual growth.
Yoga Nidra works on the Central Nervous System helping relax the mind and body from the inside out.
During this time alpha brain waves are held for extended periods of time. Remaining in the alpha state helps us to practice awareness of both the waking state and dream state.
Flexing our mental muscles, the practice of Yoga Nidra ultimately helps to neutralize the emotional reactivity of the unconscious mind, releasing physical and psychological holding in both the mind and body.
Additionally, Yoga Nidra encourages the production of delta brain waves that promotes healing on a cellular level.
Yoga Nidra enhances the process of Self-Realization.
